The heatable sample holder accessory

The heatable sample holder accessory can be used for both transmission
or reflections modes with the Bruker Optics FT-IR spectrometers and FT-IR  microscopes.

The heatable sample stage allows examination of small samples at temperatures above ambient. It can be used in transmission/ or in reflection mode. The accessory consists of 2 components; a temperature control unit and the sample holder. The temperature control unit uses a digital PID algorithm to quickly achieve the desired temperature. Indicators show the deviation from the set temperature, the heating cycle can also be adjusted. The current temperature is indicated digitally, the sensor used is a fast thin film Pt100 resistor. The sample stage is heated by low voltage current from the temperature control unit. Both units are connected by a flexible cable.

The heatable sample stage is placed on the standard stage. The sample is mounted in an opening of 13 mm diameter in the holder (standard pellet size), smaller samples may be mounted on or sandwiched between IRtransparent
windows. Materials of low refractive index are preferable, e.g. KBr or NaCI.
A threaded ring is provided which allows the compression of a sample sandwiched between the 2 supporting windows, thereby reducing the sample thickness. A reference KBr crystal should be used for background data collection
and to reduce fringing.
